BDO = Best Development Opportunity

Common question that is difficult to be answered and that is 'What is BDO?'. Binder, Djiker, and Otte are the founding partner of BDO and what BDO stands today is the Big 5 and some might say Big 4 accounting firm in Malaysia.

BDO Binder marks my first career pathway. The pathway that I will never forgot. The best experience till dated that I had ever experience. It was definitely the saddest thing to leave such a good company which I have so many friendly colleagues. Bidding a goodbye is never been easy especially for emotional people like me…

Believe me but this will be the longest posting ever in this blog….I couldn’t know how to start and how to put my feeling in word…It was just a sad moment.

I remember....

The first day on work, I woke up very early, preparing myself, grooming, walk to LRT together with Fook Weng and Ji Leng as early as 7am. Some briefing and hundred of handshake with the colleagues and there go our very first job.

Sooner second job come and follow by third and fourth. It then continues. But what we learn is not just work but also building up relationship.

From colleague to friend to classmate and sooner to ex-colleague; we have gone through together. It was just too sad to leave.

9 months wasn’t too long but it was also not too short. Auditing the total number of 8 groups of companies whereby I fully responsible for the total of 16 entities was a great achievement for me. It was a small amount but what I learn is extremely valuable.

9 months…That the period that I realize audit is something I want but also something I hate. There is several things I hate and there is some I like…I confuse…

9 months also saw the progression of friendship that was also the saddest thing I have to leave behind…

____________________________________________________________________________________

Decision to quit is not just as simple as quitting. Adding ourselves to the statistic of unemployment wasn’t good nor was it easy for us to adapt to new company environment. I do not know that my decision of resigning had leaded me back to Klang after staying in KL for almost 5 years.

Today, the last day of work, my mind was totally disturbed. I can’t perform my work well. I couldn’t answer simple question posted by my senior. I couldn’t even manage my time nicely.

5pm, half an hour before I end my BDO journey, I packed all the stuff and collecting signature for exit purpose. After collecting all signature, I proceed to the IT department to settle my laptop returning process and then Human Resource Department to hand in all administration item such as locker key, audit bag and my beloved identity card. The timing whereby handling over the card was like telling myself that, “You are no longer belong to here”… Employee A0800 (such a beautiful number) is no longer here…

I went back to thirteen floors and snap some photo with those who are in office before leaving for a dinner with close colleague and with that ending my very last day in the firm.I look like been fired
As I say before and I will keep on saying this, one biggest thing that I left behind is the opportunity to work with this bunch of crazy fella that brighten my day whenever I stress up.

The below picture will forever be memory of lifetime and although we will meet very frequently, but it was just too sad lo leave…

To bunch of colleague from HELP mainly Christine Loo, Yi Ling, Leaf, Natalie and Mei Poh, you all ROCK the firm….Definately very happy to meet you all…

To Shue Ting, Christine Fang and Sook Kuen, your laugther, your joke and the word “DISMISS” will forever in my mind…I will remember to dismiss, Sook Kuen…promise I will dismiss…

To Minami, the super model…Hope you happy forever with your boy boy….

Kamini, the victim of discrimination…Haha….there is no racial discrimination…dun worry…hehe Hui Peng, the cute little gal...

This is Ms Zovy, the audit operational executive…..

Peggy is a real food leader! When it was time to eat, she will for sure the person who make decision of what to eat and where to eat…

My longest ever senior I attached to is Seok Wei..3 and a half month I work under her…

Yee Wen…. We spent 2 weeks in hospital becoming doctor….Yeah, I love people calling me Doctor Lim…

With typist in typist pool….I can never beat their speed of typing….

Anyway, there is a lot who is not in the office today so lot of people I can’t snap photo with….For sure I will miss a lot of thing. Every morning I will miss Mary shouting “Petty Cash” and local coffee at 9am by Mei Cheh our tealady…2pm will be the special milk tea “Mei Cheh famous stocking tea”…

For sure I missed my senior teaching….Lung Lik, Yee Eng, Tse Khim, Christine Toh, Seok Wei, Yee Wen and lot more…..There are all nice bunch of people…I just love working with them…I really enjoy it…Barbara, hope you get well soon...Angela and HR team, all the best...It just getting more emotional now...I should be so emotional..

Anyway...Time flies very fast and 9 months just pass....Is time for turning new life, new cycle and time for me to close yet another chapter of my life....Time flies and it was now 12am.....Till here is my post....More to come in the future....

Ethic Dilemma

From small we were taught of what is good and what is bad. We were told not to kill, not to betray, not to steal and not to do what is perceive to be wrong in the community.

However, when we are adult, how many of us still think this moral value is important for survival. Even worst, now people are saying being nice guy will never end up in good situation....or in other word hero always die at the end...

How true was it? I wonder

I wonder why at my tertiary education I was force to take business ethics and professional ethics. I wonder why law was enforce to regulate human behaviour. I even wonder why professional paper such as ACCA are now putting more concern on ethical behaviour rather than the traditional academic style of questioning... I just wonder

Is ethics something we study and to be examine or are suppose ethical should be daily practise? I wonder and I understand that there is no answer for this. We come from different background, different culture and thus what we see is wrong might not be wrong for certain people. For example for Islamic they see gambling as prohibited and for Chinese they will think Gambling for the sake of fun is OK but not toward addiction.

In daily life we face so many ethical dilemma.

If you are lawyer, you know your best friend murder a person and he ask you to help him out in the court..will you did it?

If you are doctor and one day you saw your enemy is half dead and you are responsible to safe him...Would you safe him with your integrity toward your job or will you just carelessly perform your work hopping he will suffer more?

If you are auditor and you know there is fraud, would you shut your mouth or will you become whistle blower?

If you close family member is badly ill in hospital and the doctor is asking whether you want to switch off the oxygen tank due to the high cost that is nor bearable by you and your family or will you let it operate?

All this answer is wondering question. I do have friend who answer me that "I am not doctor, I am not a lawyer, I dun have enemy and I dun friend with murderer" but reality if this happen what will you do?

Ethic....It was a big word...

Professional people such as doctor, lawyer and accountant are thus to have professional ethics involving judgement of what is right and what is wrong.

As I am busy for almost 6 months continuously I don't have chance to watch any drama or show that I wanted to watch. In 6 months time i barely even finish up 3 episode of my drama. As for such a long holiday I manage to watch famous "Donald Trump's" show call The Apprentice...and this year it goes celebrities...

After I finish the whole 13 episode, I was shocked of how dramatic this bunch of celebrities. They compromise of sportsman and woman, model, singer, heavyweight wrestler, superstar and one reality show celebrity named Omorosa. Omorosa was nominated as the most hated reality show celebrity for being having problem with most contestant. However I salute her bravery, her survival skill of protecting and having war to the very last drop of blood...Really, she is just an amazing woman...But in reality I don't think I can work well with her...hehe

What make me a shock is this bunch of people are just 2 very different personality. They are like devil and good man...I just can't believe that. The sportswoman are just too soft and too good for the game that even they won't multiple gold for Olympic but they fail in The Apprentice. What I love about this show is there is so may chaotic and drama along the way. We saw how some group using rat (spy) and how aggressive is somebody in winning the task. Although the winning group contribution will never go into their pocket but their chosen charity body but I am shock of how they play the whole game.

In the finale, the competition down to Piers Morgan (the judge for American Got Talent show) and Trace Adkins (popular country singer) which was label as devil vs good man. For me that the reality of the world. In business to perform better, earn better we tend to use all opportunity without considering whether that is ethical or now. For me Piers is a great guy and manage to raise so much money because he have all rich celebrities contact while for Trace he have simple life with friends who is also same like him, live in simple life and less $$$ as compare to Piers. At the end Trump hired Piers.

I don not say Trump make wrong decision. I do not say Piers is wrong but what he do is not perceive as ethical...Maybe he is too harsh, tough and money minded...That is real businessman life...But Trace is also great man...He manage to survive along the way with those tough guy like Piers. Anyway I was betting that Trace win but he didn't.

So the reality, is ethical practical in business? There are several companies which did have ethical practise such as IJM Corporation Berhad which was awarded multiple good corporate governance reporting and CSR practise and SP Setia which was famous for Eco and green approach in their developing. How about company business which was unethical but portrait themselves as ethical such as BAT, GAB, Genting and so on....

Ethic dilemma...

It was how we see and perceive what is right and what is wrong...

Anyway friends....for weeks I receive comment, critics, encouragement and even argument regarding what I have done...I know...I know it was sudden but what I see now is different...Maybe I should said, we human have different thought...So long if you, the decision maker feel it was the best choice, then just go ahead...

I really thanks all critics and comments....It really help me to make my mind...The question do I give up audit forever? I DO NOT!!! Everyone know I wanted to owned a accounting firm...I even have planned for it...But plan is plan and we need to change accordingly....

Anyway...while you are guessing where I might end up with...Just some hint...I am going nowhere....Haha....You know me...Once i confirm the whole town will know it la...Wait for it la...hehe

Fullstop.Coma,Semicolon;

It take me few hours sitting in front of the computer to write this post. I just dunno how to start it...Maybe it was too long since my last posting. I was just too reluctant to type...After writing a paragraph, I deleted it...Then I rewrite it again and still I delete it. This continue for few hours...From free time in office to free time in house...It have been 2 weeks agenda that I wanted to post here and again and again I delay this posting. I just need to face the reality. It was already a well know cases....I did...and yes I did putting a fullstop on my interest.

From the initial coma, i defer my decision to semicolon and now I just put a fullstop to it.

Dated 12 September, I personally decided putting the end to my long 6 years dream. I tender my resignation letter with both sad and relieve heart. I feel my burden is less but on the same time I feel a huge rock falling on me. I crushed my own dream. The dream that I hold for years because I believe the dream is the future reality.

Step by step, this 9 months changes my mind, seeing the different world of business. I know where is my weaknesses and I know what is my real interest is...I know where should my next step be.

Robert Frost in his famous poem, The road not taken illustrate that future is unforeseen and when choices come, whatever choice taken, we know nothing about it. We just trust our intuition and follow our heart, hopefully the dream came true.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
(Robert Frost, 1916)

Plan is essential in human life. We plan a lot of thing. At morning, we plan what to eat for breakfast, how to go to work and what work should be settle by noon. At noon, we plan what to have for lunch, what to do immediate after lunch, what time should go back home to avoid the jam, and what to do tonight. At night we plan for what for dinner, what time to sleep, and what time to wake up. Life is full of planning.

Old saying stated that "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"...For years, we plan, we direct ourselves toward the goal, the ultimate plan. We success...We might also fail. When the plan look blur, we change, when it turn out another way, we redo, we correct...Planned strategy might not be the same as outcome, emerging thought might end up changing the plan and maybe change the destiny.

Sitting in front of the computer, I still feel this was the hardest post I ever write. Listen to the sad song, I take myself picturing what I have gone through within the 9 months. Time flies and it did...How happy was those moment we were together...The sore and pain we have walk will be capture in my mind forever.

Decided...I taking the road less taken. Where will it be? I don't know. I just know, I put a big semicolon, erasing portion of my dream and re divert it to what I dream for...

I know.......

I know, the road less taken, risky as it was, unpredicted future...BLUR...In ACCA P3, Potter call this "stuck in the middle" and going through "Bermuda Triangle"

I concern some advice asking me to stay, rethink, and get back the letter saying me as too rush and too emotional...What I did was merely my cracked dream and my new start of my dream. It may seem different, paranormal, and maybe weird but the road I choose was not far choose. The road wasn't that it never been travel...Is just it was less travelled.

I give myself 3 months of consideration. During my coma, I did coma, it fail...it fail to change my mind. I changed, hoping that my changes is acceptable, again it fail, my semicolon; destroy;. I was totally down, bidding goodbye one by one. I sit at special area in office with less known person. Become quite, muted person for a day, observe what have happen. I see my future in the firm. Directly as what I dreamed about...I paused, I asked myself; I get no answer...

The second day, I sit there again. Isolated. Observe enough to see the future. I know, there is bright future...I paused, I asked; and this time I answer...

There is nothing wrong of being here. There is nothing wrong with my dream but it was me who changed..I changed because my dream divert with 2 paths. Traditional famous path and one less taken, unproven.

I chosen, and I will give it a try. Anyway, I might not be young but for sure I am not too old to try it out. Life is unpredicted but human just like to predict their future. Let it be...Let fly like the birds and let time decide the future because surviving Bermuda Triangle is my dream....

I have chosen...the path one less traveled by and that has made all the difference...

I decided, that one great post will be up soon...10.10.08...The 9 months journey...Is not the end, it was just the beginning...

Decided, here is the fullstop.

Mid-Autumn

Of all many festival in Chinese Calander, mid-autumn always bring the most meaningful to me and maybe most of us especially during our "pre-mature" time...

Mooncake, lantern and candle is part of mid-autum festival...

I remember when I was small, we use to have whole village of children (all almost same age like me) having lantern parade by walking. Our latern shape is normally according to the latest trend such as ultraman, doreamon and mickey mouse....That is my era la....nowadays i saw those children playing with different shape and sizes....

During my age, I still remember we also like to play masak masak....We use 2 big stone as the stove and milo tin cover as the pan to cook....Our normal ingredient is leaves, grass and sometime flower...ahahaha....now after I rethink back, I feel it was quite childish..

Mid autumn is really about family reunion....time for children to enjoy thier time and get closer with all relative and friends....Enjoying mooncake, drinking tea and enjoy the full moon.

One other thing we always saw during mooncake festival is wat we call the devil horn or devil pod...is a kind of peanut that can be boiled and eat...Some also like to buy mini yam to eat....

Happy Mid Term Festival....

My journey home...

Yesterday after a heavy rainpour, I decided to go back to my home in Klang. Besides to service my car, I also hope can relax and stay away from the busy KL city...

As expected the stupid ex-government project is the main reason of heavy crazy traffic jam. The jam even started at Bukit Raja, somewhere 3 kilometre from the affected area.

Teluk Pulai, my dearest home area was badly affected by weird storm last weekend. I had experience extraordinary storm in Klang few times before I move to KL for study and work, but from the local hearsay, the last week storm is worst and many residents are affected with float and major destroy on the roof. Trees are uprooted by the strong wind and roof are flied away by the mini tornado...Ok it sound horrible...Actually not a tornado but I seen before wind that twisted along the way and many leaves and small things also twisted together with the wind...So I call this mini tornado...Quite comman in Klang...

So yesterday I went back to see what actually happen and what I saw is just many people repairing the roof and the new govenment handing some donation to the local resident.

They are really kind in deed whereby besides monetary helps, they also give some benefit in kind such as food, rice and canned food donated by local businesses. Malay, Indian, and Chinese are happily repairing their houses setting up the feeling of Muhibah...We are happy staying together...

Growing up in Malaysia is such a benefit. Learning multi languages, seeing multi culture and religious practises and enjoying wide range of multi races food is just some of the benefit we can ever enjoy in our homecountry. We are all Malaysian, not immigrant...We didn't jammed the bus station during the public holiday OK....We have blue IC OK....Ok ok...this sound a bit bad..let me stop this...

So what I wanna say is unity base of success....Lets get united dude...

2 days to forgot the suffering

It had been a hell of time for most of us who work as auditor. The peak period had just ended but for us in BDO, we never feel there is a fullstop. Once the end of peak period, again another task will come on hand making it impossible for us to even have a good rest.

For me who been locked one day, I am looking forward to be free and enjoy to the max...Mind you, when I say max, I can go as crazy as going for bungee jumping and riding to the roller coaster...

As planned we are going to have a sudden farewell party by having lunch at Imbi Noble House. We have a RM 39++ buffet lunch which come with Shark Fin. Basically it wasn't a farewell but more to have a outing together with some of the colleague.

Here are some of the photo...I would said the buffet is value for money as the variety is a lot...We decided to go there after we saw
Kampungboycitygal...I couldn't take any nice photo at the serving table since it was crowded with people...

We ate until 2.30pm and we decided to go shopping after dropping soh kuen who is worrying about her work even before she start the first bite of food...Haiz..
During the journey of going to th LRT station we chat about having a trip to Genting. chat chat chat, chit chit chit, chat chat chat, we decided why not go today...and when it was today, it mean now lo....without any preparation, we headed our way to Genting. 2 hour later, where we suppose to be shopping at Pavillion, we are instead shopping at The Pavilion, First World Plaza, Genting...

Enjoy the following photo....I am tired of typing yet another long story...
