Chinese age confusing but interesting

Today I read about the news of confusion over Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong age and it draw my attention to write this blog.

I knew about the age different before i read the news but this is a special topic to be discuss.

For chinese, our age is older by one year as it take into consideration of the wolm period. This is why if we are suppose to be 10 years old, chinese birthday will indicate 11 years old.

When somebody pass away, the age is added another 3 years noted from the heaven, earth and human to indicate the time gap as time in heaven, earth and human are not the same.

Again some chinese said they get older another year when the celebrate chinese new year as they consider chinese new year is time where they are older by another year. Yet some chinese assume 22 December during the winter solstice is another time where we are older by another year. Again during the "ren" day which fall on Chinese new year 7th day, everyone is having their brithday. That was the day people go out for "yee sang".

So if we really take into account of so many events, we might actually end up older by 5 years per year...hehe...this is why sometime people mistaken the age of Chinese person.

Is a tradition but we know how to calculate our age..Chinese person will always older by one year from the biological age if they passes their chinese calendar birthday. Sometime in the new era, the parent forgot to write down the lunar calendar of their child and thus they forgot about the real lunar birthday and thus they consider chinses new year as the birthday of their child. So no matter how many birthday we as chinese have, the age is just figure but the tradition of keeping the culture is what matters. Don't you think so..

Who is the bad who is not!!

Today I read several people blog which also mentions about the death of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. Despite her death, some even cursing him that he should die earlier and some think he had damage the country more than what he had benefit the world.

Tan Sri Lim had his vision on entertainment industry but not gaming until the government ask him whether he want to have the casino operating permit. His vision is to see people enjoying themselves and not suffering in casino.

However, ever seen the casino is open, lot of things happen include people having bad time and loss a lot in the casino. Should we said is because Tan Sri Lim who open the casino fault?

Human always blame people for own fault. People know gambling is bad but people still enjoying gambling and does this mean Tan Sri Lim is doing harm? I personnally do not think so because Genting do not force people to gamble. So people out there who shouted that he should die or rest in hell really need to reflect back whether the judgement of evil is correct or not. Should we blame other company CEO or founder like Magnum 4D, Berjaya Toto and Tanjung Horse turf club? If there is demand there is supply and this is how business goes....At least when Tan Sri Lim get rich, he still donated out lot of money....

Anyway, welcome your idea and comments....it was debateable topic and I wish to know your opinion...But hope please dun be too agressive when post in the comments side...Thanks

1918 - 2007
Today, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, the founder and honorary life president of Genting Berhad pass away at 11.20am at Subang Jaya Medical Centre. He leave his wife Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, 6 children and 19 grandchild.

Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong is the third richest man in Malaysia and was a very famous figure of Malaysia. His vision had turn a hilltop to be the one of the world most famous casino and entertainment city.

When Tan Sri Lim father pass away when he was 16 and he had to take over his father business after some time. Being new in business he borrow 2 dollar from his relative to buy some vegetable seed. This 2 dollar is the starting point of how he change his life into a multi millionaire.

As normal chinese at that moment, he also struggle to live. He earn just enough to feed the family. During the China - Japan war, he came over to Malaya to help his relative and to earn some money. From there, he slowly venture into construction businesses. To make the business more easier and get more profit, he venture into machinery and steel businesses as well although it was in small scale. He also involve in mining industry.

Soon, his businesses become well know and he manage to get a lot of project including water dam project in Penang and Cameron Highland. He also manage one of the Malaya most problematic project at that period which is the Rancangan Kemubu. He almost gone bankruptcy at that moment. Tan Sri Lim get the idea of a hilltop resort when he built the dam in cameron. He feel that cameron is a nice place but will not get popularity as it was far away from our city, Kuala Lumpur.

Upon finishing the Cameron Highland dam, he quickly get a map of Kuala Lumpur and find is there any good spot for him to realizing his idea. He fall in love with Ulu Kali Hill even thought he had never been there before. Days after, he climb the hill with his team and he strongly believe this hill will be the best place for him to build his dream resort.

In building the resort, he encounter millions and millions of problem and with his determination he just continue his idea. Many people had said that he is stupid and a fool for risking his impossible idea. He manage to change people perception of impossibility and turn his vision into reality. What we see today is what he had mind years ago.

The businesses grow and keep on growing till today and Genting Berhad now is not just a family business but a multinational company. With so many subsidiary in almost all country, no matter big or small, Genting berhad is already a well established company. They now had Entertainment businesses specializing in resort and casino, international cruising, energy, oil and gas, plantation and construction, property, IT and e-commerce and paper and packaging(sold off in 2007).

He story is achieved in "my story" Lim Goh Tong. For more success story of him, you might read the book. A very comprehensive and educating book.

For me, he is my idol. A businessman without much education background, having difficulty in communicating using English and Malay yet able to success in Malaysia. He is a motivator for me, a superb businessman that always manage to turn crisis into opportunity. His success is my learning point, his businesses is a great achievement to the country, his death is a loss to the nation.

Wow...Mass production

At last, our thesis been finalize....wow......I am so happy and glad...Hope will get good mark from it....hehe

Tomorrow class will start although today there was suppose a class...hehe...Business Ethic...hopefully it will not be tough...

Anyway...is time for celebration...wahaha....Last semester of university life....better be good lol...Must make it full of enjoyment...ehehe

Enjoying life but burning wallet

The living standard of Malaysian had increase. Today I go enjoy life by going Pavilion Shopping Complex...Damm High class la....hehe...

What I do today really burn my wallet....damm...All gone...wahahaha

Firstly eat subway sandwishes....Nice nice....burning wallet...

2nd go pavilion...all item damm expensive so didn't buy much...buy 1 shirt because got discount....Burning wallet again

3rd eat korean food....fortunately got ppl belanja so wallet not hurt...

4th end up in Times Square...saw sales sales and sales so end up buy a pant.....end up burning wallet again...

haha...so to have better life really need lot of money le...better work hard and earn more money...wahahahaha

Taman Negara Leadership Trip

Summary of what happen in Taman Negara...

Depart at 7.00am from Sg Long. Before that, everyone have early exercise.
Arrive TARC at 8am and went to have breakfast.
Then follow by karaoke session for an hour.

Arrive Taman Negara at 12.30pm and went to have lunch at Wan Floating Restaurant. Went back to hostel and have a rest. 4.30 start first activity of drawing map...We are able to explore the serounding area just to draw a nice map.

Night jungle treking. Saw wild boar, wild cat, stick insect, moth, firefly, scorpion, jungle ants, and some other small insects.

First day was simple and just a warm up so we sleep early for second day adventure.

Day 2 begin with breakfast at hotel. then we go to Canopy walk and jungle treking. Nothing much to see (FRIM is better). after 2 hour of walking we come back for lunch and prepare for Rapid Shooting.

Rapid shooting was nice but my camera was flooded with water even protected by plastic bag. Meet with Singaporean students and involve in Kelah Fish Conservation Program...so we let 7000 of kelah fish into the river...haha...Then we went to orang asli place to see orang asli how to set up fire and do sumpit...hehe....

When night fall, it was daradevil nite...haha...some games to torture and stimulate creativity among the participants....End up games master also been torture...Thanks Wei Hong and Hock Lian for helping up and get torture by the other...hehe...

Last day we depart back and went to Kuala Gandah Elepant Santuary. Is kinda sad to go back again this place after 4 years. 4years ago, this place is heaven for elephant where it was their playground. Nearby there is deer farm as well but now development is so fast, I can even see any jungle around. The elephant been torture by the keeper where they put 3 person to ride on it. Previously no visitor are allow to come in but government have make it into a tourist area where limited visitor are allow to come in. Now the elephant is like been force to perform for the crowd. Haiz...

Memories of 15 Days

Today, 24 person have their eye wet seeing the video clip of the 15 days journey created by Wey Wah. Today, the day to remember. Today our graduation, our future, our friendship. Although I missed 3 days of the program and missed 2 module, I certainly enjoy this Global Knowledge worker so much.

I m not as poetic as Mellow, but I hope I can write something that I like about you guys....Really bunch of friends that I treasure a lot....

Rocket Safely launched

Yes....Malaysia First "ANGKASAWAN" is now on the space....9.15pm (Malaysian time), the rocket was launched. One of the proudest moment of Malaysia...Shame for Dataran Merdeka Big Screen Management where fail to do what they promise which is to live telecast on the Merdeka Square.

Just come back from Taman Negara. Was a nice but tiring camp and I was so tired, sleepy, headache and a bit sick...hehe...No time to review what we did in Taman Negara but I will review it by tomorrow night...Learn a lot in the camp (all hidden message that Mr Eddie Chan try to tell) as well as manage to see different side of box...Whole event is nice and well done. Hopefully everyone is satisfy with it.

Tomorrow also yet another event, K-worker graduation. I was totally blur of what might be happening as I was away for 3 days. Need to have small meeting with the others after this...I believe it will be a great success just like the Program Angkasawan Negara....wahahaha

Another great day

Today mark the ending of module 4, Stand Up and Speak. I believe now 24 of the participants (including me..hehe..) will be more confident when there is any public speaking need to be done...

Today itself, we do at least 3 public speaking where 2 of them are impromtu and another is written speech that we do last night. Well, everything was nice and fun and we learn lot of way to tackle with difficult audiences and able to deliver a good speech.

Mr Jackson are kind enough to let us follow him and become his trainee (or shall i call it follower) if there is any workshop that he gonna do....It will be a good experience to get more knowledge from people like him and Mr UV Wong who is really a great great speaker.

Tomorrow another module will start which is Business Communication which I will miss for both session. That is bad....Then follow by last module, Workplace ettiquete which include table manner and grooming. Hopefully they put table manner on last day so I can learn as well.....Haiz...is time to write resume again because need to pass to MDEC....hope better job can come in as well....hahaha...

Anyway, will be absent for K-worker for 3 days which was my biggest opportunity cost...I wish can attend both but I have to scarified it due to my responsibility in the committee. Besides that, I believe, I can also learn from Taman Negara Leadership Trip.

Stand Up and Speak!!

Today got new module for K-worker...Stand up and Speak....It was a nice workshop where it was conducted in a very interactive manner and we have to do lot of impromtu speaking and tackle with lot of facial and body gesture.

Anyway to cut things short, it was a nice workshop and useful to me to improve my public speaking...Will be absent for 3 days workshop next week due to Taman Negara and it was one of my most difficult decision. Some of my friends come and approach me asking me not to skip the K-worker due to the certificate and the knowledge that can be gain. Yup, it will be the biggest opportunity cost, but it was my responsibility to be in Taman Negara to undergo training and share my K-worker experience.

Kinda tired this few days due to lack of sleep and inconsistent of eating timing. So lazy to add so much to my blog this time but just attach some photos here....Really have fun with this bunch of crazy fella...wahahaha
